Why Should Children Blog?

Blogging is in trend today. Most of the children who used to play games the whole day have started blogging these days. The number of people (mostly children) who blog is on the rise. Day by day most of the teens are entering the blogging world. You may ask “How do I know?” I’m not joking or telling anything false! I’ve seen this personally.

I’ve seen a lot of bloggers who belong to the teen group. You can take my example! I’m just 15 years old and am a blogger! About 2 years back I was among the children who used to play games the whole day! But not any more! I’ve found that blogging is more fun and useful. Let me tell you how blogging can be helpful for children (or you).

Why should children blog?

1.) Lots Of Free Knowledge!

A person generally starts to blog on the topic he likes the most. A person does not know everything or doesn’t have all the information about the topic he is interested in writing. This makes him to search the web. This means knowledge! Indirectly children begin to get knowledge. If you say a teen to go and read books on cricket or his favorite topic, most of them will say NO even if they like the topic as very few like to read books! But if you say search on Google, I don’t think anyone will say NO! So encourage blogging!

2.) Prevents Mind From Getting Dirty…

As you all know how many bad things exist in this computer world. If your child is an internet or computer games addict, these things may directly or indirectly harm him. For example a child who is a Facebook addict will get bad habits of chatting the whole day which is not good as it doesn’t help him in any way! If your child is a games addict, he may play games which aren’t too good i.e. which are for adults or contain extreme violence. This can be harmful for the child as this can change the way he behaves or in other words spoil him! Whereas if he is blogging, he comes around many good things that help him. I don’t say he won’t get to know any bad things, but most of the times he will know that these are wrong!

3.) Blogging Acts As A Stress Buster…

Blogging can relieve your child from the day’s stress. Be it studies, any personal matters, etc. Blogging can help him get rid of them! Blogging is like having a pain killer which has absolutely no side effects!

4.) Change Bad Habits

Many children have bad habits of biting nails. Even had it. Most children bite nails when they are nervous. So what if they don’t get nervous? I think if that happens they won’t bite their nails! [I have personal experience ;-) ]

5.) Improves Writing & Communication Skills

When a child writes, his writing skills start to improve! Writing is practical. He comes to know about his mistakes (Spelling mistakes and grammatical mistakes) which he tries to improve. Thus blogging can be called indirect education! Also blogging involves communicating and talking with various types of people. This improves the talking and communication skills of a child. It helps him to be patient, give importance to listening, improves his reasoning power, etc.

I can only think of these! Can you suggest any? Please do tell us benefits of blogging both for general people and also for children and don’t forget to share this post with your friends also your children who play a lot of computer games and who are Facebook addicts!

Hello Saksham,

I really like this idea! Thanks for sharing. :) I just asked my seven-year old daughter if this would be something she’s interested in, and she’s really excited about it.

Granted, I’ll be monitoring the blog. She’s already knows about online safetey, and when she’s on the computer I’m right beside her.

However, I can see this as another “fun learning tool.” She loves to write. I introduced her to computers at the age of three, and passed a HP notebook on to her. I no longer needed it. I only purchased it for some work I did with clients. I mainly work on Macs. Anyway, when she went entered school at five years old, she was miles ahead of her classmate because she was very familiar with the computer.

I had no idea that you were only fifteen years old, i’m impressed. :)

I like the last line! Very few people know that I’m just 15, well it benefits me a lot (I get a lot of praises like you just did..) :D

You should monitor your child’s blog for sure! Blogging can really be a fun learning tool if used properly. If parents allow their children to blog and help them regarding it, guiding them, blogging can be like a teacher!

This is true, you have to guide them.

We both love the outdoors so spend a lot of time outside. I do realize the edge she can have being computer savvy, I encourage that too. To be honest, not too much is needed since she enjoys computer time. I monitor what she does, and I’m always right beside her.

Anyway, I just finished setting up her blog. I decided to create a subdomain on one of my own sites. If I see she’s really interested, I might purchase her own domain, in a few months. It’s actually kind of exciting, watching her type her first blog post. (I’ve got to take a picture.) I’m sure this will increase her typing skills too.

Oh by the way, she says thanks for writing the post, since she now has her own blog too. :)

Simply awesome.

I was an only child for ten years and we didn’t have as much to do then but read and read and read and…you get the picture. Of course we played and did kids’ things but I was the type that really needed mental stimulation and writing would have been a wonderful way to express myself and to stay out of trouble. ;-) Knowing I had an audience, I can only imagine how I would have honed my writing skills.

I was very creative as a child — that means I lied a lot but imagine the possibilities of what my imagination through writing could have meant to the world. Sigh.

This is one of those, “why didn’t I think of that” posts! Thank you.

I definitely agree that encouraging your kids can help them develop a lot of things. They get to develop their creative skills in writing, their grammar and typing skills may also be improved. There are lots of advantages of blogging, they can even earn money through it…many teens who have become successful bloggers and entrepreneurs are now earning money with their hobby. I really admire these kids who realize that age isn’t a hindrance to be able to inspire other people to become better. With the right guidance and encouragement from their parents, it’s not impossible for these kids to be successful when they grow up.
