Six Things Social Media Can’t Do For You

This post is written by Mark Twain who is a freelance writer working for Fortepromo promotional products, a promotional flashlights company based in Minnesota.

Social media websites like Twitter andFacebook is growing at the whopping rate from last few years.  Due to which almost every internet marketer and online business owner is jumping on the banrogerdwagon of social media so that they can develop relations with their target audience and market their products amongst them. Although social media has many advantages but it has some limitations too. In this article, we’ll highlight six things which social media can’t do for you.

Provide quick results – Well this is the biggest limitation of social media websites. Social media can’t deliver quick and overnight results. If you are on social media websites that you must have seen millions of inactive facebook pages, unmanaged twitter accounts, outdated youtube videos and so on. Most of the internet marketers join these social media websites to achieve overnight results and then just leave when they can’t achieve those results.

Succeed without consistency- Social media can’t make you successful if you are not consistent with your social media efforts. Nothing frustrates your target audience more than your outdated social profile which has not been updated from many months.  If you want to be successful on social media websites and want to build some credibility among your target audience on these sites then you must be consistent in your social media efforts.

Social media as one-off project – Time and again, we see Internet marketers and business owners who treat social media as a fixed time project which is completely wrong. Social media campaign is not about creating profiles on all social media websites or to acquire hundreds of followers. It is about building long term relations. So, don’t consider your social media campaign as a short-term project it is a long term commitment you (your company) have to do with your target audience

Replace all other marketing efforts – It is true that social media has lots of advantages but you can’t rely completely only on social media websites for interacting with your customers. You still have to use other marketing methods like PPC , SEO, direct marketing etc to generate sales.

Guarantee sales – Although many online businesses like Dell are using social media to generate sales but it doesn’t mean that social media is a lead generating machine especially when you deal in premium products which have a highly targeted customer base. Such business can use social media only for the sole purpose of branding their products.

Succeed without participation at all levels – An effective social media campaign needs participation at all levels from the top management to the bottom. As a business owner, you can’t and should not leave all responsibilities of your social media campaign on the person who is managing those accounts. Your top management must actively participate in the campaign too and take decisions based on the information and feedback they get from it.

All strong points Roger.

Never make the mistake of depending entirely on social media for your business results. Meeting people is nice but what do you have to offer them? Make content creation the basis of your campaign. Run a blog, publish articles, write ebooks. The go about meeting people of facebook and twitter. You’ll have something to share with others which makes you that much more social :)

I agree with Roger, one cannot solely depend on social media for lead generation, he/she needs to use other promotional methods like PPC, SEM and Direct Promotions too. Nice post Roger.
