How To Create An Image Sitemap For Your WordPress Blog?

Some days ago I read a status on FaceBook suggesting something about images sitemap. The question asked was “Are image sitemaps useful?” Unfortunately I couldn’t answer the question as I had heard the term “images sitemap” for the first time. Before that I never thought that one can create a sitemap for images. At that moment I searched on Google for images site map. I found a WordPress plugin that could create an image sitemap automatically and quickly.

Read on to know more about the plugin and how to create an image sitemap for your WordPress blog.

1.) Download Google XML Sitemap for Images plugin and install it in your blog.

2.) Under Tools section click on “Image Sitemap”.You will be taken to the plugin page.

3.) In that page click on “Generate Image Sitemap” and the work will begin and get over in a matter of few seconds!

4.) That’s it! Then you can submit the sitemap to Google using Google Webmaster tools.

Does An Image Sitemap Help In Increasing Visitors?

Yes is the answer! After using this plugin I feel that my images are better indexed in Google! Before installing this plugin I hardly got any visitors from Google image search. But these days after submitting an image sitemap to Google I get a lot of visitors from Google image search! I will like to thank the plugin creator for giving us such a nice plugin!!

Thats an excellent tip, thank you. I never knew it was possible to do an image site map. Does that mean that there are also video site maps?

It is therefore suggested that web publishers include an image sitemap (see example) on their sites. This will not only give Google strong hints about your various images that should be included in image search results but will also help them identify the most important and relevant images on a particular page.
