Gone are the days when our grandfathers and great grandfathers had to depend on the postal services to get their mail delivered, which normally used to take days to reach its destination.
In today’s fast world we have access to the fastest way of communication i.e internet. The whole world seems to be so well connected that a person sitting in one corner of the world instantly connects to the other person in some other corner of the world that’s the beauty of technology.
Without boring you much let’s come to the point straight away. Today we all use web mail services – gmail, yahoo mail, hot mail etc, etc. All have some features or the other. I just wanted to highlight one very useful feature of gmail which I have discovered lately and that too accidently, though many of you might be aware of this but for those who are still not aware, it might be a useful read.
Gmail has a wonderful option of managing number of email accounts through one account itself, thereby saving you of lots of hassles. One such beautiful option is to alter your ‘from’ mail address. Which means that you can send the mail from one email id and your mail receiver will get some other ‘from ‘ email id which you configure in your mail settings.
Follow the below mentioned steps to configure the settings –
- Log into your gmail account.
- Click on the settings tab on the right hand top corner.
- Under settings, click on ‘Accounts and Imports’.
- See second option ‘Send mail as:’, under this option click on the box – Send mail from another address.
- A pop up window will open, fill in your other email details and click ‘Next Step’.
- Now at the last step you need to verify your new email address, for this just click ‘Send Verification’.
- Check your new email address that you have specified to use as your ‘from’ email address. You must have received a verification email. Just follow the instructions in this email to verify your email address and you are done.
Now your mail receivers will see the other ‘from’ mail address which you have configured in the steps above.

This a pretty cool option. This will help me add all the email addresses that I have in Gmail and send as any one of the addresses. One question, can we add email address from other providers too? Like Yahoomail, Hotmail?

Yes, I think so! I have added e-mail of bloggingjunction.com in G-Mail.
It’s a really cool feature, but I always forget to change the default to fit whomever I’m sending an email to, so some people think I have like 3 different email addresses and become very confused. I’d like it better if they highlighted the field in red or something so that I would remember to change it every time lol.
