Five Fun & Handy WordPress Plug-ins

Have a look at this list of 5 fun and handy plugins for WordPress.

1)  WordPress Automatic Upgrade — http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/

I just started using this one. I love it. I was afraid to upgrade to WordPress 3.0 but due to this plug in, it was a snap. So far it has worked flawlessly on somewhere in the neighborhood of 27 blogs that I have updated. It makes it easier to update WordPress correctly, you know, backing up, disabling all the plug ins, etc… then upgrading… something many of us cheat at every day.

2)  All in one SEO — http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

I like this one for obvious reasons. WordPress has become so popular due to how well the search engines love it. This plug in makes it simple for even a novice to put important keywords and SEO functions in their blog or website easily and quickly. I can’t stop mentioning this plugin again and again!

3) RSS Footer — http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rss-footer/

This is handy because if you have readers who read you via RSS you can easily monetize or incentivize each post they read by putting something awesome in the footer that only your subscribers will see. Your subscribers are extra special because they’ve taken the time to actually make sure they do not forget about you, so use the footer to give them some love.

4) Exclude Pages –http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/exclude-pages/

If you want your WordPress blog to function more like a WordPress website, or Content Management System this is a simple plug in that allows you to keep entire pages off the menu. Great for download pages, shopping carts, private areas, or just better organization and less crowding of menu bars.

5) WP Invoice — http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-invoice/

I was not sure I wanted to try this out or not but I finally did and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! Love it, Love it! Did I mention that I love it? Now that I am doing more writing for clients and less hourly virtual assistant work, this invoicing system works so much better for me than my previous Freshbooks did. Freshbooks is awesome, don’t get me wrong — but it is simply more than I need. This plug carries no monthly fee or commitment and is free unless you decide to donate to the author. (which you should!) It even handles recurring invoices with ease.

Same here.. All-in-One-SEO is a must for bloggers and online marketers! The Exclude Page seems pretty handy too when you have lots of pages in your site/s. Thanks Stephanie!

Grreat list of plugins. I had never heard of the RSS footer and I definitely plan on taking a look. A lot of people swear by the All in one SEO plugin, but it seems like having a Thesis theme pretty much includes all of the benefits already. Do you know of any reason to use it if you are already running a Thesis theme?

Since I don’t use the Thesis theme I cannot really speak to that but what I can say is that if your theme does a function already, I would not add a plug in. It’s probably better to use as few plug ins as possible because you may run into incompatibility issues when using many. I use all of these plugins as needed on my list of sites, but I don’t use them all on each site, only ask needed.

I have tried the WordPress Automatic Upgrade and All in one SEO plugins AND they are all really great! I will try the others in your list, maybe they are good as the first two plugins you have mentioned. Thanks for sharing this one.

Thanks a lot..I use All-in-one SEO already but as far as the automatic upgrade plugin is concerned, I guess it is better t wait a while and then upgrade rather than just update as soon as a new version is launched.
What do you say?

I agree with you! I suggest waiting for some time and then updating to get reviews on that version.

I definitely suggest waiting a while with each upgrade but not too long because it can cause security issues with your site. Some people are so afraid to update that they put their site at great risk. The important thing is, BACK UP YOUR SITE before any upgrades or major changes. :)

Great post Stephanie,

I only use All in One SEO from your list because I mostly do SEO stuff. I also recommend CommentLuv. I’m quite interested with WP Invoice (simply because you’re very excited to share it lol). Thanks!
