Traffic is the live wire of every online business. Even the experts are looking for that loophole where they can get quality free traffic to their blogs without spending a fortune. The truth is that: getting traffic is not difficult, it may take some of your precious time but it can be done. If you’re decisive and have a clear vision of what you want for your blog, there are 5 basic steps you need to follow in order to drive free targeted traffic starting today.
Plan Your Attack
Before you start any blog, you need to put your plans in the right order. If you don’t plan, you may succeed in building a blog that will earn you little or no money at all. Planning in this sense means that you need to know the market you intend blogging about. Often, the experts tell us to blog about what we know and that is very important. I never considered this when I started and I did pay for it dearly – wasted a lot of time and nothing to show for it. I find out that I’m comfortable and passionate about driving traffic. Once you figure out what you want, go ahead and explore the sub-niches and the potential buyers. How desperate are they when it comes to solving their problems?
Deep Keyword Research
Proper keyword research helps
you to read the minds of your targeted audience. There is no other way to know what people are interested in, except when you use one of the keyword suggestion tools out there. Google and other search engine crawlers are busy looking for keywords on web pages (I mean web pages not websites). Each web page on your blog must be properly keyword friendly if you want to drive organic traffic to it. You don’t have to register a domain name yet, until you are through with keyword research. This research has to be deep so that you can pinpoint good keywords with few competing web pages on the search engine.
Register A Keyword Rich Domain Name
The traffic you would attract via Google and other search engine is going to be targeted. If this is what you want, you need to align your domain activities properly. In step 2, you learnt about deep keyword research, go ahead and register your web presence with a high volume keyword that has 2 or 3 words. Make sure you check the competition on Google to determine how fierce it is. Preferably, you should aim for less than 500,000 results especially when you are still new to search engine optimization. When you acquire more skills, you can compete against 1M competing pages creatively.
Search Engine Optimization Basics
If you have done the first 3 steps, then congratulations! You’re on the right track. This time, you are optimizing your different pages, contents and building external links. Majority of the search engines like Google and Yahoo sees a blog that has thousands of back links as relevant. The on-page optimization should come first. Thereafter, start getting relevant back links from authority sites like article directories, social networking sites and blog platforms. If you do your search engine optimization properly, coupled with quality content, you’ll be able to rank on Google’s homepage for your main keyword within 14 days. This is the exact way I build my new blogs and it works.
Quality Content Is King
I’m glad I did not forget this one. Quality content is truly king when it comes to getting traffic from the search engine. Avoid duplicate content; it can cause Google to penalize your blog and you will be sandboxed. Instead, spend a few minutes and churn out original and quality article that your visitors would find interesting and helpful. There are various private label rights article package on your niche that can speed up your article writing by 70%. If you miss quality content, the success you will record is for a short time.

Traffic is only the major task for any blogger. I could manage SEO, good keywords and content also. I have to concentrate more on Getting backlinks.
Getting backlinks isn’t a very hard task, you can do it by commentating, guest blogging, etc. you just require time and patience :)
You’re right Talwar, we need a little patience. But it’s worth waiting for. Good luck
Concentrate more on getting relevant backlinks. Every other form of traffic online has a little weight on your overall ranking. Relevancy is key.
How would you suggest getting relevant backlinks? Using google’s backlink “tool” (i.e. search link:mydomain.com in google) for a domain thats similar?
The above code shows the sites that already link to you. You can get relevant back links by finding blogs that belong to your niche from Technorati, blog directories.
One thing that I have noticed though, is with the link:… search in google, is that although, let’s take Bing or Yahoo as examples, they show 30 or 50, but with google it shows maybe 1 or 2…
Wonder if google sees some of the links as the same, and then omits them from the link results… Can’t see that google would’ve missed them – that just seems very highly impossible!
Thanks for the Technorati advice! Will definitely be looking into that.
Hi, I think Google doesn’t list all the links because webmasters may use them to build links to their own sites. I am not sure, because Google hardly reveals any of its policies and webmaster related things :)
You are welcome :)
Point 5 is the base, no content, no rankings.
You are right bud, no content = nothing!
Choosing keywords is the first step to drive traffic to blog but you also need keyword rich domain name and quality backlinks
Keyword rich domain is necessary, but one can even get targeted traffic without a highly keyword rich domain.

I agree with all your points to get targetted traffic.. but I suggest one more point of Social Media Marketing.. through proper SMM activity we can also get targetted traffic on our websites and also we can increase the awareness of our websites in people’s mind.
Off course dear, social media marketing works but… it takes expertise to succeed. So many internet marketers simply waste their precious time on Facebook and believe they are promoting their blogs, we need a better understanding to use SMM. Anyways, thanks for pointing this out!
