Checklist Of A Good & Successful Blogger

How can you make a blog successful?

I know it is an open-ended question. There is not a set formula to ensure the success of a blog. I can say so because there are several blogs I see everyday which don’t have the best content but they get good ranking along with decent advertisements and traffic.

But sadly though, not everyone is so lucky. While not many successful bloggers are keen on sharing the secret of their success, there are others who are generous with information. With the help of such generous bloggers, I have compiled a checklist which can help you become a successful blogger. Following are some of the things you need to pay attention to:

Basic Blog Structure Checklist

While writing SEO content, organizing your blog or even deciding upon the overall layout of your blog, ask yourself the following questions to make sure that you are catering what your audiences requires from you, in terms of quality as well as quantity.

  • How well you know your audience?
  • Do you have a strong call to action?
  • What are your strong points which set you apart from others?
  • What is the most special thing about your blogging niche?
  • Do you provide quality information?
  • Do you have the latest and up-to-date information to share?
  • Have you already built your credibility as a blogger through guest posts?
  • Can your readers relate to your experiences?

It is a checklist of all the structural points that must be there in a good blog.

Blog Content Checklist

If you’re writing miles and miles of content which offers little or no value to your readers, you are wasting your time. Keep the following important points in your mind while drafting blog posts.

  • Do you offer real value through your content?
  • Do your blog posts are unique and different than others?
  • Is your content original?
  • Do you write action-driven headlines?
  • Are your blog posts completely about your blogging niche?
  • How can you differentiate your blog posts from the rest of blogs?
  • Do your posts sound exactly the way you think?
  • Do you avoid jargon’s?
  • Do you generate content based on Google keywords trends that people actually search?

Make sure your blog content must be original, unique and all about your blogging niche.

Be mindful of the Domain name!

Domain names are very important and can make the decisive factor for the success of your blog. Keep the following points in mind while choosing a domain name for your blog.

  • Does your domain name give any idea about your blogging niche?
  • Is your business name the same as your domain name?
  • What domain extension are you using?
  • Is your domain name an attention grabber?

After checking this list out, you must have noticed that domain name plays a significant role in making a blog popular.

Something about your Blog Design!

Blog designs also play a major role in attracting and retaining readers from the web. You can target the traffic to your page via SEO but you can only retain this traffic if you have an attractive blog design. Ask yourself the following questions regarding your blog design.

  • Do you prefer white or any colored background that makes it hard for people to read?
  • Do you effectively utilize the white space in your blog?
  • Do you have multiple font styles, colors and sizes?
  • Do you have mobile version of your blog?
  • Is your blog quick to download?
  • Do you use colorful headings for your blog posts?

Though content is king, but people usually get attracted towards a blog that appears attractive in the first look.

Marketing  your blog

Marketing is an absolute essential for all kinds of blogs. It is mindless to ignore the marketing aspect so dedicate some time to taking care of the following important things.

  • Have you devised a marketing plan for your blog?
  • Which marketing methods you will use?
  • Do you use offline and online marketing methods both?
  • What kind of advertisement will be suitable for your blog?
  • Do you believe in writing guest posts for marketing purpose?
  • Do you have SEO plan for marketing your blog?
  • Do you seek for some referrals?
  • Do you regularly interact through social media websites?
  • Do you conduct surveys?
  • Do your RSS feed is available for all subscribers?

You may write exceptional content but if readers do not know about your blog, how can you expect they will read your blog?

You are always welcome buddy ;)
the blog is going good but as i told you traffic is the big problem for me, not getting huge or any thing near about that, so its quite disturbing factor as of now for me.

Try writing top 5, top 10 lists. I have seen good results with them on my several new blogs. Focus on quality for now! :)

Saksham,

Excellent points. I have been working on two things lately that fit in with these ideas. Keeping on topic that matches your niche and domain name is one, and the other is to try to be entertaining or creative enough to have readers want to return to my blog on a regular basis.

I believe that both metrics are good features in the eye of the omnipotent search engine.

Personally I write a lot about Links and money at LinkMoney.org and I invite you to guest post anytime.

Rich,

Hi your website looks cool and your website domain is just fantastic. You have made an awesome use of the words link and money!

I just read the post about Internet marketer clock. BTW, what are the requirements for guest posting? I couldn’t find a dedicated page.

Thanks for this, a google search for “blog checklist” got me here, and the first 8 or so posts I read on other sites were rubbish, obviously just to grab some traffic while this one had the information I was looking for.

Cheers

The post gives & fair Idea of what every one needs to do for becoming a successful blogger.

However I had a big doubt Can i target multiple niches in a single site….I post frequently related to Google doodles ,Linux tutorials,Software utilities& CMS’s everything I worked on.

Reply

Saksham Talwar January 5, 2012 at 11:14 PM

Well you can do that, but it means that you will receive untargeted traffic which is hard to monetize. Well if you have a proper plan, you can build a multi-niche site. :)

This is a great list to review regardless of where you are in your blogging lifestyle. For instance, after months of posting with white text on a black background, I was told by a coach that it was hard to read. After switching to a standard white background with black text, the time people spent on my site almost tripled within a month! Thanks for a valuable post that is certainly worth revisiting at least every couple of months to make sure there aren’t any “leakages” in your blog.

Hi Saksham,

An amazing post and yes the domain name is super important, which is why I have been very careful with my blog’s domain name. And devising a marketing plan for a blog is the most difficult task. As there are millions of blogs in a particular niche and it takes a lot of patience and hard work from the the blogger’s side.
