As said in my earlier post the importance of reading while blogging I guess you have started reading other blogs and have surely benefited from my tips. As I say to read, while reading you might have across many blogs with long posts. Did you enjoy reading them? Weren’t you bored reading them? I guess you were.. Now have you ever looked onto your posts. Aren’t they too long for your users to read them? Your readers too might think the same as you. They too don’t like long, very time consuming posts.

I too don’t like reading very long posts. I myself don’t read such long posts. Because the content in many of the long posts is really useless. Although you need to write certain long posts in order to keep your users alive and interested in your blog, the number of long posts need not increase the number of short posts. Readers including me, as I am an active reader, enjoy reading long posts only if they have some nice content. I enjoy reading long posts if only they have certain parts in them. The posts need not be in a single one but in different posts. I will also like to read them if they have certain headings in them.

Readers don’t just read your posts fully. They just skim it. It means that they don’t read the posts fully, they  just look at the important points that have been highlighted and the words are really interesting. Readers get bored reading long posts as they have to read long texts continuously and they find it too time consuming. And if they read the full post and they don’t find it helpful their time is wasted. So many of the people avoid reading long posts.

So keep your posts short and easy to understand. Your posts may be short, but keep them informative. A short post with no information won’t  be read by anyone. Always remember Less Words, More Readers.

Once again, it is a good tips. I, my self, prefer to read not so long blog post. And if the post must long, just cut it in blog posts series, so the post is still not too long.

  2. We have to synthesize the information we post but sometimes it´s a hard work to do.

But I´d like to say that there are some widely popular blogs that publish very long posts, for instance zenhabits and the Tim Ferris blog.

What do you think? Because they are two of the most successful blogs on the Internet.

    Good tip.

    • There are many blogs which publish long articles. There is no problem in having long posts as long as your readers are interested in it. But for a new blog according to me needs more posts in quantity rather than its size.

I have see the blogs you have told and I found the articles in them good and of a proper length. As I told you cannot write articles of exactly 500 words, so 600 words or 700 words will do. As long as your readers are interested in your articles you can pot of any length, but the recommended length is of 5oo words. Size doesn’t matter, but the matter i.e. information in it matters. Post a short, but informative post!

      BTW, thanks for the comment!

I came across Steve Krug’s – Don’t make me think, a few years back. He opened my eyes to this type of mindset. If you haven’t yet, it’s worth your time reading!

  6. Flippa Chick says:

If you can say a mouthful in as few words as possible, you’ve got a goldmine for a post.

Your web traffic doesn’t want to read a thesis statement, they want the most important pieces of information possible, delivered in as little words as possible. Stick to that, and you’ll do well.

I find that the longer the post the more repetitious it gets. :)

    • It depends on the type of your blog…. if your blog is new the quantity of posts should be more rather than the length of the post…. if its an old and popular blog the posts length should be long…
