this is one of the most capital mistakes you could make as a blogger. Do you blog on self hosted blogs? A big chunk of the blogosphere is made out of free-hosted blogs, such as the ones WordPress and Blogger provide. Nothing is wrong in creating your blogs in these sites. But they are good only if you are a beginner and are just trying to test the blog or if you are blogging for the first time. They are NOT AT ALL good for the professional bloggers or for long time use and benefits. If you wish to develop your blog in future you may not be able to do so with these services.
The best way to blog is to get a .com domain and self host it. Now – a – days .com domains are available for a very cheap price. The regular price for the domain is about $10.0 (You may even get a domain in a rate cheaper than this). And the hosting price is different at various places depending on their service.
My site is hosted at Webhostgiant . Here hosting is pretty cheap and their customer service is also awesome. Hosting at Webhostgiant gives you hosting at a very cheaper rate i.e. UNLIMITED SPACE + UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH + MANY OTHER FEATURES at a price only of about $40 – $50 per year. There are also available other plans cheaper or expensive that this plan. There are also many sites which provide hosting at a good price. But before choosing any please don’t forget to see the reviews of that specific host.
Why I tell you to self host your blogs? The reason is if you have your own self hosted blog, the companies like Blogger and WordPress do not have any control on your blog and its posts unlike if hosted on their servers. You may also develop your blog adding many features to it if you have a self hosted blog. Suppose if you have WordPress as your blog script you may install and use various plugins and themes unlike in a free *****.wordpress.com blog.

I hear this message from many bloggers. And it looks like they all say to get a self-hosted WordPress blog too. I will one day. In the mean time, I have a question for you – what other blogging platform would you use besides WordPress?

My first preference will always be WordPress Self Hosted. If I have to choose something else, I will go for WordPress.com version and if have to go away from WordPress, I will opt for Blogger. Blogger is very easy to use.

Self-hosted is the way to go, although I started out on Blogger, I wished I had setup a self-hosted WP blog from the start.
This is especially true if you are in it for the long haul.
