This is the third part in the series ” Tips For Writing A Good Blog Post “. In the last part we discussed on how long a post should be. Whether it should be very long or a very short one. Or it should be of medium length. We discussed almost all of the points. But we missed one important point. We discussed on how long a post should be. But I forget to tell you what are the minimum number of characters that are necessary for a post to be enjoyed by your readers. We will complete that missed point in this part.
People mostly write long posts as they think this
would keep the reader busy in their blog and also they will get praises for their long post. But this isn’t true. People don’t enjoy reading long posts. You may write a long post only if the topic demands. A long post isn’t suitable for every topic. Most of the topic are better if they are written in short. I won’t go in detail about it as we have discussed all this in my previous post. Lets move forward.
Besides the disadvantages of long posts we discussed in the last post there are many other disadvantages of it. Long posts are very hard to remember. People just can’t remember them. They read it once and go to take its help. On the way following your post they forget some step in between. They have to come once again in your blog, find that specific article, find the point they have missed and read it once again. Very less people do this re-reading. I myself don’t like reading an article again and again. I love reading short posts. The result may be different if your posts is a tutorial. If its a tutorial like the one in my site about How To Install WordPress In Windows XP?, people may consider reading it once again.
But if its a post like this one, very few will consider reading the post all again. So keep your post short. Keep it short but informative. Present more information in few words.
How Short?
You might think, your post should be short, but how short? Whether it should be of 100 words or 1000 words or may be more or less. No one will like reading a 100 words post unless the topic demands. Very few will like reading a 1000 words post. Although I will read a 1000 words post, but I will like if a post is of less words and more informative.
There is no limit how long a post should be. There is no guarantee that if a post is of a certain number of words, your audience will enjoy reading it. After all it also depends on the content in that article. I would recommend you to keep your article short of about 500 Words.
Don’t fill these 500 words with junk. This 5oo words include the introduction of the post, the main part what you are going to explain in the post and the explanation of the post. Keep your introduction short and the main content long. But remember it should not exceed 500 words. If it exceeds the limit consider editing your post and remove all the unnecessary points that you have written. There is no objection if the number of words go beyond the limit of 500, but always try keeping it short.
1000 Words Is Good, But, 500 Words Is Better.
