Another nice thing about Windows Live Writer is that users can add plug-ins that will extend the functionality of this wonderful software. Here are some useful Windows Live Writer Plug-ins that can make your life as a blogger easy:

  1. Twitter Notify. This is a plug-in that works with Windows Live Writer and it sends a tweet announcing the new blog post as soon as you publish it in Windows Live Writer. The URL of the post will be generated using TinyURL service. From the Options menu, you can customize the default message that will be posted along with the URL of the post.
  2. Digg This. This plug-in will add a Digg This badge to your post so readers can Digg your post. Customization on the alignment and style of the Digg This badge can be done in the Options menu.
  3. Flickr Upload. This plug-in uploads to Flickr, all inline image that you inserted to your post so users will be redirected to your Flickr photo stream if they click the image on your post.
  4. Flickr4Writer. This is another great plug-in to use with Live Writer if you have a Flickr account. This plug-in will add an “Insert Flickr Image” in the Insert menu which will allow you to insert in your post pictures from Flickr. The image can be search by tags or by username and you can also select the size of the image to insert in the post.
  5. Social Bookmarks. This plug-in will add a social bookmarking icon for sites such as Digg, del.icio.us, furl, yahoo! to your post that the readers can click to share the post to these sites.
  6. Insert Video. As the name suggest, this plug-in will allow you to easily embed a YouTube, Google Video or MySpace video to your post. All that is needed is the URL of the video and the plug-in will automatically generate the code needed to embed the video clip.
  7. Screen Captures. Do you sometimes want to post a snapshot of a particular site to your blog post? Let say you saw a sale alert in the homepage of shoebuy and you want to blog about this discount offer so your readers can also enjoy the coupon codes and vouchers being offered by the site. This plug-in will make it easy for your to do that just by typing the URL of the site and it will insert a screen shot of the page to your post.
  8. Blog This. This cool plug-in will let you select a text from a site in IE and Firefox and after clicking the Blog This button will create a new post in Live Writer populated with the Title, text and URL of the page.

We all love things that will make our blogging life easy and Windows Live Writer partnered with the above Plug-ins will surely make blogging such a breeze.

Oops, the add-on is no longer available. It was deleted by its makers recently. You can find a backup at http://img.labnol.org/files/blog_this_for_windows_live_writer.xpi
