Many people fake Feedburner reader count. They do this to get user attention and more advertisers. But do you think this way is useful or safe? So before praising a site on account of its reader count, please check whether the reader count is correct or is it fake!
I’ve seen some blogs in last few days having lots of readers! Well I felt amused seeing their reader counts. I began researching their other ranks like PageRank, Aexa Rank, various traffic details, etc. and I was shocked to see they had such a large amount of readers. For example I came across a site that had a reader count of 20,000+ and on the other hand had just PR3. And to add to it, it had Alexa rank of about 3,00,000. Well its true that all this (PageRank, Alexa Rank) aren’t related to the reader count, but if a site has 20,000+ readers it should have a decent traffic rank also. According to me a site with 20,000 readers should have a traffic rank below 10,000 at least! Well in that site’s case, it wasn’t so!
Also when I went through all the other details of the site, various site statistics I started feeling that the reader count was fake. But I didn’t knew how did that person do that! I started checking through that site’s source code. And guess what, the site had a fake reader count! Well the site administrator made a big mistake, he faked the Feedburner reader count, the unsafe and easy to identify way! He simply changed the Feedburner reader count image of his blog to that of some other blog and link pointed to his feed! That was indeed foolish! He didn’t think that one can go through the site source code and find out the truth! Well it was his foolishness! He faked the Feedburner count in an unprofessional way.
There are many other complex methods of doing this. Well I won’t discuss about them as I have never tried them. You can although search in Google for them. Well my message is just avoid praising a site just on account of its reader count! It can be fake! Also don’t buy paid reviews on sites just by seeing that my reviews will reach hundreds of thousands of reader. Who knows the readers the site is displaying aren’t theirs! So be a little smart and try identifying whether the site has real or fake readers!
I don’t mean that all sites with a high reader count are using fake numbers! Many of them are displaying their real reader count. But still a few bad men exist, who fake their reader count! So my message is “Beware Of Fake RSS Feed Counts!”

I will keep rocking. Its good to know that you like my posts.
I never, ever, ever pay attention to stats. If a blogger impresses me with their writing style and content they go into my RSS. If I’m not impressed they could have 1 million followers but I could care less.
Numbers can be fudged but the proof lies in the pudding/

He..he..you’re right! Even I’m impressed only by content and not the reader quantity.
yes i have also seen many such blogs with fake rss feed counts and i was also shocked with their other rankings like Alexa and more
I mainly look for good and useful content while surfing blogs and not their rss counts
I too look for content and their worth.
This way may make your blog looks great but I can tell your blog will never make money with it.

You’re right! That can only bring part time success and no money at all, because advertisers are sharp enough to find these tricks used by foul people.

Hi,
I’ve never been ashamed to display my modest amount of followers. We all have to start somewhere.
And when it comes to following / subscribing to a blog, I could care less whether you have 2 followers or 20 thousand. Content wins me over.

i totally agree with you about blogs with over 20000 rss feed subscribers having a alexa rank of less than 10000. I checked quick online tips and it has an alexa rank of around 6000 which 20,000 readers so yep, totally correct on this one.
My estimation was right! Thanks for the comment mate. Hope to see you here again soon!
Peter, I also agree with you because I have researched about Alexa ranking!
However, here I found good commentary stuff, everyone is here with unique comment and adding something to this post!
Overall, very nice stuff, keep it up!
Thanks for the comment and praising!
Nowadays fake rss counters are increasing rapidly. Many black hat bloggers are using this to increase readers.
Yeah, but it’s useless. What do you think?
Appreicate your thoughts, Im not always in agreement, yet you do cause a peron to think keep blogging!
I have been wanting to do this kind of the article myself on my blog but I’ve decided against it for the simple reason that those who are not the right mind might still attempt to do (read:fake) so and damage the whole credibility of having feedburners stats.
Still, you are letting the cat out of the bag….anyway, I usually judge the popularity of a blog not by the no. of subscribers but by the no. of comments on each post instead.
Well, number of comments is one feature of blogs which is hard to tamper (but spammers or scammers can do anything)! I also trust blog comments as a reliable quantity to judge quality and popularity if a blog and many times it works!
