Add This To Add Traffic!

There are hundreds of sites online where your readers could be sharing your articles. You’ve heard of the big ones – Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon – but there are plenty more too.. Do you give your readers one easy button that lets them share your articles with a couple of simple clicks? If not, you should think about adding the “Add This” button to your blog, so your readers can help you get more readers for your blog posts.

The “Add This” button is pretty simple. First of all you just have to go to addthis.com and choose what sort of blog you have that you want to add the sharing button to – there is a list of options on the front page. If you don’t have a Blogger blog or a WordPress blog (Either on wordpress.com or a self-hosted one) you just choose the “Website” option which lets you add the button to any website.

Add This Button

Once you’ve chosen what sort of blog you have, then you can choose what you want the “Add This” button to look like – once again, the list of options is on the front page, so just select the one that looks best.

Thirdly, you have to decide if you want to get stats on how many people are sharing your articles with the “Add This” button. If you do, you have to register on the site. If you just want the button, then you don’t have to register and you can just click the great big “Get Your Button” button on the front page. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog (Not just WordPress.com) you’ll also need to register with AddThis to make the button work on your blog.

Once you get your button, you have to add it to your site. If you have a Blogger blog or an ordinary website, you have to cut and paste the code that the site gives you. If you have an ordinary site, you have to paste the code somewhere in between the “” and “” tags in the HTML code for your website. If you have a Blogger blog, you have to post the code into your page template. This may sound a little confusing, but don’t worry, because the AddThis site has step by step instructions, with pictures, showing exactly what you have to do to add your button to your Blogger blog.

If you’re using one of the two WordPress options, you have to add a widget to your blog. Once again, the AddThis site has simple tutorials that show you exactly what you need to do to add the button to your blog.

And that’s it! A simple, quick way to let your readers share your blog and your articles on hundreds of different sites. When you write a post that people really like, they can easily show it to all their friends, fans and followers, and you get the exposure you need.

The Add This button has a thousand different options which most of you readers won’t use. I think it’s better to use big colorful buttons of the most popular social sites and tell your readers to help you share your article. Just my opinion

Thanks for voicing your opinion! You have a point here. It’s better to have different manually added buttons for most used social bookmarking sites.

There are many ways to increase web traffic, the book marks are a good way for some industries while for others is just a worthless effort.

I’ve experimented with a couple different social plugins like this. A twitter and facebook button is a must have right now. I don’t think anyone ever used the Google Buzz or digg buttons anymore so I removed them.
