So you started a blog? What next? I don’t have any readers… L How will you have any readers till you market your blog? To get some readers and visitors to your blog it’s essential for you to market your blog, i.e. promoting your blog. Until you promote your blog, no one will be ever able to find that you own a blog. That’s why there comes a need to promote and market a blog.
How to promote my blog? How do you go about getting your blog out there to be seen and known by others? How to let others know that my blog exists in this world? How do I bring readers to my blog? There are many ways to get your blog out there in the web world and let it known by others. This isn’t a very difficult task if you had a blog. For others too who are new to blogging, blog promoting isn’t a very difficult task. You just need to spend some time of yours and later your blog will help you reap benefits.
A blog that contains good posts isn’t going to be known by others until you manually tell anyone. No one will come in your blog automatically. You need to bring them in! You are not going to gain any valuable links, nor a higher search engine ranking by just having a blog. Something more is needed. That something more is “Blog Promotion”. What’s this now? Blog promotion is just letting others know about your blog. It’s like telling others that my blog exists.
How To Market A Blog?
1.) Create Feeds For Your Blog: – When you first create a blog, of course it is unheard of, no one knows about your blog. No one knows anything about the blog unless you give them the link and show it to them that this is my blog. The first thing that you can do to promote your blog is to allow RSS feeds be taken from your blog. Almost all the popular platforms like WordPress, Blogger, Etc. support RSS Feeds. You can optionally use FeedBurner too. Allow other websites and blogs to publish your same exact blog articles. When these blogs do this, they offer a link back to your site and their readers come in your site in search of something new. This will get you some readers. This is one step forward towards blog promotion.
2.) Update your blog frequently: – Your blog needs regular updates. A blog that isn’t updated regularly cannot be successful any day until it starts doing so. Suppose you post an article a day for first few weeks of your new blog and get in some readers. After some weeks you change and the article quantity decreases. You will think this won’t affect your blog, but it is not so. This will affect your blog largely. Your readers will start getting bored and won’t come back to your blog. This isn’t blog promoting, but is to retain your readers that you got as a part of blog promotion.
3.) Comment On Other Blogs: - When you are trying to increase your reader quantity, its necessary to comment on other blogs. Try finding each and every blog on your topic and start commenting on all of them. By thus you’re going to find that commenting on blogs that are relevant to yours surely helps. Find a blog that is on the same topic to yours, or close to it and leave comments on it. Don’t just leave “Thanks for the post” and “Nice post” type of comments. Give related comments that give more information or expand the topic. These comments will help you more.
4.) Search Optimize Your Blog: - To get readers from search engines, you need to optimize your blog. A blog with good posts and no search engine optimization won’t get any readers from Search Engines due to lack of SEO. So learn SEO and use it in your blog. This isn’t any course or anything like that, but some simple ways that will help you get better ranks in Search Engines. The better ranks in Search Engines, the more readers and visitors you have. In formula terms, MORE SEO=MORE READERS
5.) Participate In Forums: – When you join forums, you can easily promote you blog. Forums are a great way to promote a new blog. You can add a link to your blog in the “Signature” field that makes your blog link come below every post. This gives you backlinks as well as your blog is seen by other forum members. This can be of great help in promoting a blog.
6.) Digg / Stumble Your Blog: – In these days of social bookmarking services, it is very important for you to participate in it. It’s very important on your part to Digg and Stumble your post. The post you submit on these sites is seen by others on the respective sites and they usually come to your blog. The more people like your blog posts, the more digs/stumbles you get and more the posts become popular. Isn’t this great? Hitting just a single button and you get so many visitors!

Good points for startup bloggers, but you missed out on important point to market the blog i.e. social media. Sites like twitter, facebook, LinkedIn are great to promote your blog.
