5 New And Surefire Ways To Make Readers Comment!

Encouraging readers to comment on your posts is advantageous for many reasons. To start with, it attracts different opinions and eventually provides a broader view of the topic then what a single person can think of. When writing the original blog post, you might end up missing a certain idea or point, but if your readership consists of knowledgeable commentators, you can afford to loosen up, because some of your readers will bring it up in next to no time.

Comment

Commenting also ensures that at least some readers will be coming back to see other people’s response, or else the reader is gone for good after going through the post, it is the comment section that keeps many a readers hooked, and keep them coming back to that particular page to check for the replies, and see what others have to say, who is agreeing with whom, and who holds a totally different opinion of the topic. It’s true that sometimes this dialogue can turn into a heated debate, not to mention that comments also attract trolls and spammers, but in spite of everything, good comments adds great value and they are probably the biggest source of inspiration that a blogger can get (apart from money, of course).

Even though, coming up with a comment doesn’t take much, still something as trivial as engaging people and making them comment doesn’t come easy. There’s not much you can offer in return of their comments, and most readers will just quickly sift through the post and leave, you can’t really do anything about that (or maybe we need a script that doesn’t let the readers leave without commenting).

Jokes aside, there are some certain elements that you can add to your posts and get more comments. Let’s take a look at those elements …

Play on the curiosity factor: Ask a question, leave a thought hanging, intentionally avoid giving a closure and let the commentators finish the job (even if it means stating the obvious). If you are a little biased, keep it that way, no need to accommodate all angles in a single post. Let other’s speak for themselves; don’t try to speak everybody’s mind.

Give your honest opinion if it means a little controversy: Nothing starts a discussion better than a little thought provoking idea or opinion that stirs people’s mind and force them speak out. Remember that being controversial doesn’t mean being a flamer (don’t worry; you will be getting plenty of those in your comment section anyway). Don’t try to go over the top with this, as it might get a little out of control; avoid using this technique for sensitive topics, like politics or religion.

Ask for their opinion: Encouraging people to think on their own and asking for their views explicitly, often works. The thing is that the majority of the readers always have a certain view, but very few bother to write, however when you will explicitly ask for the feedback, some of them won’t mind doing so.

Observe what’s hot: For those looking for more comments, and suffering from writer’s block at the same time, here’s an idea to kill two birds with one stone. Just visit other blogs on similar topic, forums, or even social networks to see which relevant topic is ‘hot’ and getting discussed. Writing on these topics will attract new readers, and most of these readers will be having plenty to say. However, you must try to put a fresh spin to that topic.

Respond to the comments, especially the thoughtful ones: No matter how many comments are there, try to respond to each and every one, make your commentators feel at home, In particular the commentators who are adding their own perspective. Failing to do so will make them feel a little desolated and they will be hesitant in commenting the next time.

There are time when I do comment on other blogs, coming up with what I think is a thoughtful or non spammy comment and it gets deleted frustrates me to no end. I know the blogger needs to pay attention or still might loose what would wind up being a great commenter.

Well Neil there may be reasons why your comments deleted. Like they may have landed up in spam section or you might have used keywords in the comment name field or added unrelated links in the comment body. Else I don’t think any blogger will delete comments?! :)

Bhai don’t you think that replying each comment personally is bad for seo or something . I am not 100% sure but , I read this somewhere and it says – you must not keep replying and create different content , which is not related to post .

Hmm, I haven’t heard that before, but it may be true to some extent. Well what I have heard is Google gives less value to comment fields, the content there, the URL’s mentioned there. So overall the entire comments section doesn’t carry much value from the SEO point of view. Well if we are there to build readers, we will have to reply to the comments. I actually haven’t faced anything bad (SEO, nor anything else) by replying to all the comments. :)

Yeah, I agree with you. It should be fine to reply to every comments. The replies should even build up the SEO as long as we stay on topic.

You’re right Jasmine, we should stay on topic as far as possible to keep SEO levels high throughout.

Hi Saksham,
Nice points brother, Getting comments on our blog is really important otherwise the blog will be like a strange place where everybody stood quite and it will not be interactie at all. According to me I always ask some questions related to my article subject, and by that i am getting many comments from my readers. Giving reply for reader’s comment is also must.

He..he..just visited your blog and dropped a few comments! :)

I actually visited it couple of weeks back and I thought it was a web host review site and not a blog, so I didn’t spend much time there! But now that I know you also have a nice blog, I will consider spending time there often!
