5+ Facebook Social Plugins For Your Blog

This guest post is written by Robin Son who is a Security Consultant, Technology Enthusiast and Blogger. He blogs at DailyTut.

Its about Facebook Social Plugins, that you may find useful to install in your blog to gear up the social media touch. Social Media gained so much rights, in today’s internet routine. Just watch your friends or relatives who uses internet, for the first webpage they are accessing after sitting in front of the system. It would be Orkut, Facebook, Hi5 or MySpace obviously. This happens in 90% case these days, where earlier people open their email box as the very first URL after launching the web browser. Social media addicts are every where, counting me as well. But the purpose for getting addict literally differs between people. Bloggers depend on the Social Media to engage with their readers and fans. Politicians or Cine Artists engage with social media to cast their views on certain issues and their upcoming schedules as well.

The recent survey taken in United States shows that, the business lead generation for small, medium businesses people who entered into social media is 1 %. This is of course a quite negative result but the fact is, whether the small, medium business people have engaged with their customers in correct approaches or not. As the social media term is totally new to them, there is a high possibility of simply creating an account and waiting for some miracle to happen automatically. This should never be the case. Engage, engage, and engage with your customers, or readers to understand what they need and how you can give it to them with creative approaches. Its 2010, the survey result goes negative. I am sure, that this will not be the case for 2011 also. A drastic change in the survey result and in real will be seen with the help of social media.

Let me suggest you 8 Facebook Social Plugins that you may add in your blog manually to improve the social media interaction in your blog.

1.) Like Button

This one adds the famous facebook Like Button. Facebook recently changed the Join button which exist in the pages to Like. Without just that, they have created an API to let the user add this like button under any specific article or the entire website. The status gets updated in your facebook after clicking the like button in enabled website.

You can customize the way its displayed in the left side configuration window.

2.) Activity Feed

The activity feed option allows you to display the complete data of likes and topic shares made from your blog to facebook. Again, we can customize it to fit with the sidebar of the blog or wherever we want to display the activity feed. Height, width and color of the background can be customized in the left side configuration window.

3.) Recommendations

The Recommendations plugin shows personalized recommendations to your users. Since the content is hosted by Facebook, the plugin can display personalized recommendations whether or not the user has logged into your site. To generate the recommendations, the plugin considers all the social interactions with URLs from your site. For a logged in Facebook user, the plugin will give preference to and highlight objects her friends have interacted with.

4.) Like Box

Specify your facebook page id in the left side configuration window to get your facebook like box ready to use. It enables the users to.,

  • See how many users already like this page, and which of their friends like it too
  • Read recent posts from the page
  • Like the page with one click, without needing to visit the page

5.) Login with Faces

The Login with Faces plugin shows profile pictures of the user’s friends who have already signed up for your site in addition to a login button. You can customize the number of rows to be displayed that decides the number of faces to be shown in the specified area.

6.) Facepile

The Facepile plugin shows profile pictures of the user’s friends who have already signed up for your site. Again, specify the width and rows to display the number of profile pictures in the specified area.

7.) Facebook Comments

Comments Box let the users comment to be displayed on your site. The user can share the comment on facebook with their wall that in turn moves it to his friends streams as well.

8.) Facebook Live Stream

This is a very special widget that lets users visiting your site or application share activity and comments in real time. Live Stream Box works best when you are running a real-time event, like live streaming video for concerts, speeches, or webcasts, live Web chats, webinars, massively multiplayer games.

If you are new to blogging and added any of the above widget in your new blog, then do let us know by commenting here. Will surely have a look at it and can comment about it in your blog. Will meet you in Blogging Junction with my next guest article soon. Thanks for your patience and i am sure you have enjoyed the article so far. Happy Blogging.

I have tried them for a few months and it seems like only Like box is helpful. I only place the box on my site and it doesn’t affect the page speed much, but do you know how to get rid of the line at the bottom?
Thanks.

I need to do a little revamp of my social links and post footers. At the moment, I am not using any plugins but coding them by myself.

Reply

Saksham Talwar June 7, 2010 at 9:34 PM

I find coding difficult so I prefer using plugins. But one day I will surely create custom codes.

Reply

Ajith Edassery June 7, 2010 at 9:55 PM

Btw, it’s not like I do super-perfect code to make those links. They look ugly when I do it but they are light weight. Plugins look cool.

Saksham Talwar June 8, 2010 at 10:31 AM

I always prefer plugins as I don’t have to update the code again and again as WP updates. Its done by plugin author! Even I will try writing links! I think we just need an image, and the ‘submit to’ URL or Digg, etc. submit URL?
