Everyone likes to hear the word FREE and if someone gets something for free, his happiness has no
bounds! In this post I will tell you some of the ways to advertise your site for free. Instead of spending a lot on advertising campaigns, we can use the below free methods to advertise our site.
1.) Join Forums
Always join as many forums you can. If you own a technology blog or site, join technology related forums. Add your blog and site links in the signature fields in the forums. If the forums you join are do-follow ones, then its even better. This will also help you to increase your PageRank! Apart from traffic and page rank you also get help at the forums. So why not join forums?
2.) Submit Your Site To Social Bookmarking Sites
This is another way to get some free advertising. Always submit your article and site to social bookmarking sites. To name a few submit your site to Digg, StumbleUpon, Etc. Also don’t forget to submit your articles to Twitter, it’s the next and the most used marketing tool as of today.
3.) Submit Your Site To Directories
Always submit your site to directories. Always choose the proper categories there and also use proper description and titles for your site. Try submitting your site to popular directories. They have more users and so there is a brighter chance for you to get more visitors.
4.) Link Exchange With Other Sites/Blogs Of Your Niche
Link Exchange is another way to get some free traffic and in improving our Page Ranks. Always exchange links with sites belonging to your niche. This will give you some traffic.
5.) Redeem Free Coupons You Receive From Adwords And Other Such Sites
Many a times you receive e-mails or letters from Adwords and other such coupons offering you $50 free advertising and other good deals. So why waste these opportunities? Remember free is always good, never waste these offers.

I’ve slacked in the forums area. Your article has motivated me to join a few work at home, entrepreneurial, and cash gifting forums.
Article marketing, twitter, Facebook, writing ebooks, and blogging are my free advertising methods of choice.

I blog on all days. Actually I write some article in a day and then I schedule them for later days, so that I don’t miss out on any days and blog stays updated! Joining forums really will get you some good visitors and backlinks too.
I submit articles to eZineArticles. It brings traffic & PR-juice as well :)

If you talking about free advertising, forum posting is best for me because it gives great traffic in less effort.
Yeah, forum posting works so far the best for me! Also comments give me good amount of traffic!
Great tips Saksham, I mostly do all of the above stated things but I do not do directory submissions, I feel they are a waste of time since most of the directories are already spammed with a lot of links and well most of them are no follow. I dont think any body goes to directories to check out new sites when there are so many new kind of Web 2.0 showcase sites where they can check into so I dont expect any traffic from directories from that point of view too

Agree with Netchunks completely. I find directory submissions not as useful as forum posts or social bookmarking/networking. For me Twitter and Facebook are the way to go with.

I can sat that participation in forums is a good way to drive good amount traffic. but due to lack of time am away from my favorite forums.
Same is the problem with me! I too get very less time for posting in forums!
These methods require more time but they are best and free methods to advertise a blog.

Adwords give free coupons just once for any account. So once we redeem it, we cannot get it again

Link exchanges can be a good method but can also backfire if you build a link farm
Yes I agree with you Saksham. Why pay if we can get the same quality for free. There are many free advertising website out there and directories as you mention that need to advertise their website and blog by advertising other blog.
