10 Ways To Make Readers Comment On Your Blog Posts.

There are many blogs that I read. At times I like what I’ve read and at times I don’t like. Depending on the situation I make comments on the blogs. Many a times, I don’t comment on blogs! At certain times I like the post I’ve read, but still I don’t comment!

Why? Why are you acting foolish? Are you stupid? These are the questions that might arise in your mind. But I am right at my point. And many bloggers are also like me, who don’t comment at blogs that they read regularly. Why should I comment at a place where no one is listening to me? Why waste my time at a place, where my views won’t get any attention or replies? are the few reasons that are given by people for not commenting at the blogs they read. So how to make readers comment on your blog posts? Let me tell you how to encourage comments in your blog.

10 Ways To Make Readers Comment In Your Blog Posts.

1.) Make Posts Interesting: Many people come in a blog in search of something new and interesting. When they find something new and interesting, they comment on it and share their views. Else, they don’t comment! It’s as simple as that. Make your posts interesting and make the reader comment on your post.

2.) Encourage The Reader To Comment: This is a common reason why people don’t comment on your blog. People reading your posts want something in the post that should make them comment. You should always ask your readers to share their views with you.

3.) Ask Questions To Your Readers: At the end of the post ask questions to your readers. Just a simple “Did you like the post?” or “Any questions?” or “Asking them to share your views” will do. Readers just want that someone should ask them something to which they can reply. You should initiate a conversation and let your readers carry on it!

4.) Make Commenting Easy: Use easily visible forms in your comments. Use simple forms with easy options. Make the comment form appear different from rest of the site content.

5.) Do-Follow Links: Always keep the user comment URL’s do-follow! All the commenter URL’s in my blog posts are completely d0-follow. Its like a thank you gift. If users spend their time commenting on your blog posts, why not give them a gift in return? Giving back links is the vest gift for commentators!

6.) Use CommentLuv: I came to know about this plugin by a few blogger friends of mine. After I began using this plugin, many users comment in my blog. This plugin is very useful. This plugin displays the latest post from the users blog in his comment. This makes the commentator get a backlink to his post. This is yet another way to encourage comments in your blog posts.

7.) Answer To User Comments: I’ve seen many blogs where reader comments go unanswered. This discourages the reader from commenting further in that blog. So always respond to reader comments and retain readers.

8.) Offer Some Prizes To Top Commentators: Many bloggers give 125×125 banners to top commentators in their blogs. This is a nice way to encourage comments in one’s blog. Also displaying a list of top commentators with a link to their site encourages user comments in your blog.

9.) Return Comments: When a person comments on your blog, take time and comment on his blog. This makes him feel good and then you may get a regular commentator in your blog.

10.) Your Views: This is your place! Please share your views here with us!

So liked the post? Please friends comment on the post, share this post on Digg, Twitter, FaceBook, etc. and make the post popular. Please friends, its a request!!!!

You could also add use keyword luv : we know many people comment only for SEO but there are many blogs who have a strict policy against usage of keywords in the Name field. Thus many people do not comment after reading the comment policy. So the work over to keep even your comment policy standing and also to make more people comment, is to use Keyword luv. Keywordluv enable a person to comment using the name and keyword in the same field in the following manner Yourname@YourKeyword which will show in the comment as Yourname from YourKeyword.

That is pretty good na!!

Hey Saksham,

These are really great tips. :) I think we can create a thank you ~ plugin and .so that first time commentator will be redirected to a thank you page.

Thanks,
Dev

I think a thank you e-mail will be a better option? This way the person will be on the same page.

Harsh Athalye May 14, 2010 at 7:00 PM

I personally feel thank you email is not a good option as it doesn’t have the personal touch. It is just an automated reply. Instead if you can personally thank him by replying to his/her comment, it will be more worthwhile. Just my opinion though! ;)

Yes, you’re right! A personal reply is must. If with it we send a thank you e-mail, it gives more value. But thank you e-mail with no reply to the comment, doesn’t make any sense!

Although having good number of comments is valuable, another important thing is whether you are getting useful comments. Adding do-follow may get you more comments but that would only for the sake of back-links. I am not interested in “Thank you”, “Nice post” kind of comments. Also, spammers can take advantage of Do-Follow comments and you may get penalized from search engines for that.

On the other hand, having CommentLuv and offering prizes for Top Commentators is a good option to encourage readers to leave comments.

Thanks for the tips!

I too like only valuable comments. I don’t like “Nice post” sort of comments, but also I accept them. Google will penalize us only if we add any random links and all that which are useless. But I only accept comments which are useful, I don’t care for links and Google penalization!

I think #4 is key. Too many blogs make it far too difficult to leave a comment. If I have to login in the leave my opinion chances are I’m moving on to the next blog.

In many blogs, bloggers are the people who are commenting, “good post” , “nice article” ,”thanks – its a good article”

almost its like a spam … a so called comment. You have quote some valid points here.. that can help people to pull more interaction but again for the backlinks, if the commentor is a blogger…

Bloggers should aware of building a community discussion inside every blog they visit, atleast when they find some interesting articles to read in that blog. This is mainly for newbie bloggers..

Good post and nice article are useless comments unless one adds some more information in the comment related to the post. A blogger should focus on interaction and not merely backlinks. A blogger should help others by his comments.

From the experience I can tell, that the greatest reason on which your readers will make comments on your articles it if you have lifted any problem very important for people.

Ironically enough, it is hilarious how many comments are in this article. It is not hard to get comments, you just have to make sure you have good content. There needs to be a reason for someone to come to your blog and read your posts. Captivate, it is the word of the day!
